Walter Mosley is one of the most loved and successful authors in the country. He has mastered the art of crafting perfect mysteries and thrillers that keep people begging for more. The Easy Rawlins mysteries series is his latest work and has been receiving widespread acclamation. Through the Easy Rawlins series, Walter Mosley tackles issues related to racism in a manner that is easy and enjoyable to read.
Easy Rawlins has set up a detective agency with other partners and is set to propose to his girlfriend when a case comes becoming. An aging convict (charcoal Joe) needs assistance. His Friend’s son has been accused of murdering two white males. The case is racially charged from the onset and Easy has to work extra hard to extradite Seymour, whom everyone believes committed the crime.
2. SIX EASY PIECES
As the head custodian of Sojourner Truth High School, Easy Rawlins should have a pretty easy life. However, every one seems to be asking for a favor in one way or the other. The favors involve investigating murders, arson and crimes of all sorts. Before long, he is plunged into a world he might not come back from.
Easy is out to rescue Rose Gold, the daughter of a weapons dealer who has been captured by a revolutionary group calling itself the Scorched Earth. They threaten to kill her badly and in public if their demands are not met. Easy Rawlins has to race against time if he wants to rescue Rose Gold, placing his own life in utter danger.
Walter Mosley brings Easy Rawlins back. This time, he is hired to search for Little green, a young man who disappeared as he conducted a drug run. Rawlins and Mouse, his sidekick scout the dens and strip clubs of downtown New York in a manner that soon escalates to bloody mayhem.
5. BLONDE FAITH
Easy returns from work to find the daughter of his friend, a Vet, at his house. The Vet is nowhere to be seen and Easy deduces that he must fear for his life and the life of his daughter. His longtime girlfriend is marrying another man. His sidekick, Mouse is no where to be seen, wanted by the police and Easy is convinced they will kill Mouse when they see him this time. He must unravel the mystery alone, in a world of hurt and action paced encounters.
Easy, desperate to find cash to pay for his daughter’s medical treatment, takes up a job offer for a private investigator on a missing person’s case. His investigations lead him into an adventure of his life in this riveting read.
During the 1965 Watt riots, a white man is pulled from a car by the mob and escapes into an apartment building. Later, a red-headed woman, the little scarlet is found dead in the same building and the white man is considered the prime suspect. The murder seems like a racial-related case. Easy is out to investigate the case and prove who did it and why.
Easy seeks a life void of trouble by closing his investigative agency but trouble has another agenda for him. He is sucked back into action when the son of a close friend goes missing. In the wake of racial hatred among whites and blacks in US, this investigation proves to be a dangerous one from the start.As he seeks to find Brawly, what he discovers about is a shock.
Easy decides to mess around a little after he is made a school custodian. The lady he messes up with ends up missing and he falls right onto the prime suspect list by the police. A little yellow dog is suddenly on his heels and he has to kiss his easy life goodbye and concentrate on solving a murder mystery that might see him go to prison for a long time.
When a white man hires Easy to find Black Betty, he is repulsed and almost shoves the dollars back into the man’s face. He however takes on the case knowing only too well that Black Betty would be his undoing. However, he cannot seem to get enough of her and he is determined to find her, even at the cost of his own life.
Two friends-turned acquaintances- Mouse and Easy Rawlins find themselves in a hired Ford, heading to Texas. They have different agendas. Mouse wants to get money from his stepfather so that he can marry EttaMae. Rawlins had his own past with EttaMae and when Mouse’s compulsions turn to murder, the friendship they have is threatened to be torn at the seam.
Easy is uneasy in this one. A racist IRS agent is onto him for tax evasion. An FBI agent, Craxton agrees o help him on condition that he infiltrates the First American Baptist Church to spy on Wenzler. Things begin to go bad pretty fast as bodies start piling up.
Another Walter Mosley classic. Easy is sitting in a bar, drinking and wondering how to pay his mortgage after being fired when a white man walks in and tells him he will pay him to locate a certain Miss Daphne. When he takes on the job, all hell breaks loose.
14. WHITE BUTTERFLY
Its takes more than one black girl to be murdered before police can show interest. When the third girl dies, they show up on Easy’s doorstep. He turns them down, citing family life. A white girl is murdered next and pressure on Easy is doubled, with threats of sending Mouse to jail if he doesn’t comply. Its back to the streets again and this time, it will get ugly.
